What is the Life Experience Pathway?
Understanding the admission process if you don't have prior academic degrees, but you do have life experience
At Queens College of Theology (QCT), we recognize that many ministry leaders have spent years faithfully serving in significant leadership roles but may not have completed traditional academic pathways. The Life Experience Pathway provides an alternative route to admission for qualified ministry leaders whose experience reflects the depth, responsibility, and oversight equivalent to advanced theological study.
This pathway is designed specifically for individuals who have served in high-level ministry leadership roles and can demonstrate sustained, verifiable executive responsibility.
Who Is Eligible?
Master’s Degree Eligibility
Applicants may be considered for admission into a master’s-level program through the Life Experience Pathway if they have:

Head of a Christian nonprofit organization
-
-
A detailed resume that includes:
-
Name of the organization or church
-

What Qualifies as Ministry Leadership?
It is important to understand that ministry leadership does not simply mean organizing events, leading ministry projects, missions or serving in smaller volunteer leadership roles.
To qualify under this pathway, the applicant must have served in a primary executive leadership position, such as:
-
Senior/Lead Pastor with oversight of a congregation
-
Executive Director or President of a Christian nonprofit
-
A comparable role with documented authority over organizational direction, staff, and spiritual leadership
The role must demonstrate sustained responsibility for vision, governance, and organizational leadership, not merely participation or departmental leadership.
Admissions Review Process
Admission through the Life Experience Pathway is not automatic. All applicants are reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
It is important to note:
-
The Life Experience Pathway is considered an alternative admission route.
-
The Admissions Committee will generally give priority consideration to applicants who meet the standard academic admission requirements.
-
Life experience alone may not be sufficient if the committee determines that additional preparation is needed.
Each application is evaluated holistically, taking into account leadership history, documentation, recommendations, and overall readiness for graduate or doctoral-level academic work.
Final Considerations
The Life Experience Pathway reflects QCT’s commitment to honoring faithful ministry service while maintaining academic integrity and standards. It exists to recognize long-term, high-level ministry leadership, not to replace the value of formal academic preparation.
